‘Philosophy: Extra’ Weekly Sessions

Philosophy: Extra sessions take place online every Monday 4.30pm/5.30pm (UK) and are booked in blocks of six sessions. There are approximately 15-20 young people in each group, typically aged between 12-16, and together we explore news stories and current affairs that raise important philosophical questions. Participants can make suggestions regarding stories to focus on and we regularly have games, quizzes and competitions.

To give you a flavour of what goes on, previous topics have included whether digitally altering your image on social media should always be declared; whether C18 thinker, David Hume should be ‘cancelled’ due to his support of slavery; whether controversial paintings should ever be censored; and whether a musical composition that takes hundreds of years to play in full is really music.

Philosophy:Extra survey feedback delivered a 5* rating for tutoring with all participants stating that they enjoyed the sessions a great deal.

“I love that our sessions include news stories and the discussions are really fun.”

If you would like to book a place for a forthcoming block of sessions (next start date is May 9th 2022 4.30-5.30pm (UK) – £50 for a block of six sessions) or take part in a taster session, email bookings@philosophy4children.com
